New Balance 2002R Protection Pack Rain Cloud

Of the three pairs in the pack, the New Balance 2002R Protection Pack Rain Cloud looks the most two-tone, as Sea Salt and Phantom are more monochromatic. The upper is made of durable suede and lightweight mesh, and the materials also include cow leather.

The series’ signature feature is its frayed suede overlays, with extra elements stitched onto the classic panels. The tongue has exposed foam and unfinished edges, the midsole looks aged, and the outsole is scuffed.

The 2021 Yue Wu Pack

The pack’s concept, with its details and aged colors, came from Yue Wu of New Balance’s design team. The series debuted in 2021 as a deconstruction of the classic 2002R silhouette, and the Rain Cloud pair went on sale in Europe on July 1, 2021, and in the US on August 20. The pack returned in 2025 under the same code, M2002RDA.

The popular MR2002 inspired the New Balance 2002R, and the model as a whole evokes the running style of the 2000s. New Balance says the ABZORB midsole absorbs impact by combining cushioning with resistance to compression. The brand adds that the model fits true to size for most people.
