Nike SB Dunk: A skateboarding version of the Dunk

Nike says the Dunk was originally a basketball shoe that became popular in skate culture and was later redesigned for Nike SB. In the early 2000s, the Dunk Low Pro SB was created with a padded tongue and reinforced construction, and the Nike SB line launched in 2002. You can find regular versions of the model in the Nike Dunk Low and Nike Dunk High.

What does SB mean in Nike shoes?

SB stands for Skateboard. Nike SB is Nike’s skateboarding line, and its official website, nikesb.com, uses the name Nike Skateboarding.

What’s the difference between Nike and Nike SB?

Nike SB is Nike’s line designed for skaters. With the Dunks, the difference is in the construction: according to Nike, the SB Dunk Low Pro has a padded tongue and a Zoom Air unit in the heel of the insole, while the regular Dunk Low Retro has a foam midsole.

Are Dunks Jordans?

No. The Dunk is a Nike model, while Jordan is a separate brand owned by NIKE, Inc., alongside Nike and Converse. According to Nike, the Dunk was created by combining the brand’s basketball models at the time, including the Legend, Terminator, and Air Jordan 1.

SB Dunk Low Pro According to Nike, it has a low-cut profile, a leather upper, and a rubber outsole with a fully stitched cupsole and circular tread that provides traction in multiple directions. With the collection are models including Court Purple and Purple Suede, Chicago and Classic Green, Pro ISO editions in White Gum, Black Gum, and Wolf Grey Gum, as well as Premium and QS editions.

According to Nike, the SB Dunk Low Pro has a leather upper, but materials vary by pair in collaborations and special editions.

For some SB Dunk Low Pro versions, including Pro ISO White Gum (CD2563-101), Nike says the model runs small and recommends ordering half a size up. This note does not appear on the pages for other checked SB Dunk Low and SB Dunk High versions.
